Who they were
In Russia, Saints Boris and Gleb, martyrs, who, princes of Rostov and sons of Saint Vladimir, chose to receive death rather than to oppose their brother Svyatopolk by force: Boris gained the palm of martyrdom on the river Don near Pereyaslavl, Gleb shortly afterwards on the river Dnieper near Smolensk.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 24 July as a prince of Rostov and son of Saint Vladimir who chose death on the river Don rather than take up arms against his brother.
