Botwulf of Thorney
English abbot and saint
Feast: 17 June (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
Botolph, whose name lives on in Boston, was born of noble Christian Saxon parents and studied on the Continent. Returning to England, he was allowed by a king of the southern Angles to build a monastery on a desolate tract called Icanhoe.
The story of his life is confused, but he was certainly a historical person. He died about 680 and was much honoured in the North and in Scotland.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

A Saxon abbot who made a wilderness a place of prayer.
