Who they were
Burchard, of noble parents in Hesse, served Archbishop Willigis of Mainz, who made him chamberlain and judge of the city; his fairness reached the ears of Otto III, who named him Bishop of Worms in 1000.
He laboured tirelessly for his people's temporal and spiritual good, rebuilt the city walls, tore down a stronghold that sheltered criminals, and issued a celebrated body of laws to secure impartial justice. He died on 20 August 1025.

The Catholic Encyclopedia does not describe how he came to be honoured as a saint.
