Who they were
Cándido Casals Sunyer was born on 22 August 1889 at Nou de Berguedá in the province of Barcelona, entered the Claretian Congregation in 1907, made his first profession on 8 September 1913 and was ordained priest on 20 May 1920.
He was killed on 29 July 1936 at Barcelona, and Pope Francis beatified him on 21 October 2017 among the 109 Spanish Claretian martyrs.
