Who they were

Carlos Manuel Rodríguez, known as Charlie, was born at Caguas, Puerto Rico, on 22 November 1918, the second of five children of a simple, solidly Christian family; his brother became the first Puerto Rican abbot.

A layman, he gathered young people at the Catholic University Centre in a liturgy circle, later the Circle of Christian Culture, and with extraordinary fervour promoted among bishops, clergy and laity the renewal of the liturgy through the active participation of the faithful, the use of the vernacular and above all the Easter Vigil restored by Pius XII.
