Cassius of Narni

Who they were

At Narni in Umbria, Saint Cassius, bishop, who, as Pope Saint Gregory the Great relates, every day offered to God the sacrifice of reconciliation, pouring himself out in tears, and gave all he had in alms; finally, on the day on which the solemnity of the Apostles is celebrated, for which every year he used to go to Rome, after celebrating Mass in his own city and distributing the body of Christ to all, he returned to the Lord.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 29 June as a bishop of Narni, praised by Gregory the Great for his tears at Mass and his almsgiving, who died on the feast of the Apostles.
