Who they were
In Africa, Saints Castus and Aemilius, martyrs, who completed their passion in the fire. As Saint Cyprian writes, having been defeated in a first contest, the Lord made them victors in a second trial, making them stronger than the flames to which their bodies had earlier given way.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 22 May as a martyr in Africa who, as Saint Cyprian writes, was defeated in a first contest and made a victor in a second, dying in the fire.
