Catherine of Bologna
Italian cloistered nun (1413-1463)

Who they were
Caterina de' Vigri was born in Bologna on 8 September 1413, eldest child of a rich and learned Ferrarese patrician who served Niccolò III d'Este. Skilled in the liberal arts, she entered religious life, she wrote, 'enlightened by divine grace, with right conscience and great fervour'.
As a Poor Clare she was mistress of the sisters in Bologna, famous for her mystical life and her path of penance and humility. She wrote The Seven Spiritual Weapons.
