Who they were
Caterina Fieschi Adorno was born in Genoa on 5 April 1447, the last of five children; her father died when she was small and her mother gave her a sound Christian upbringing.
A profound conversion led her to the resolve that shaped her life: 'No more world, no more sins.' A widow, she was known for her contempt of the world, frequent fasting, love of God and charity to the needy and the sick, and she wrote on the soul's purification after death.
