Who they were
Cedd, brother of St Chad, was brought up at Lindisfarne under St Aidan. In 653 he was sent to evangelise the Middle Angles, then to Essex, where he was consecrated bishop, founded churches and monasteries at Tilbury and Ithancester, and later founded Lastingham in Yorkshire.
At the Synod of Whitby he accepted the Roman Easter. He died of plague at Lastingham on 26 October 664.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
A missionary bishop who brought the Faith to the East Saxons.
