Celerina of Carthage

Who they were

At Carthage, in present-day Tunisia, Saint Celerinus, reader and martyr: in prison, not overcome by fetters, sword and various tortures, he confessed Christ, following in the footsteps of his grandmother Celerina, long since crowned with martyrdom, of his paternal uncle Laurentius and of his maternal uncle Ignatius, who, once soldiers active in military life but afterwards become a true army of God, obtained from the Lord the palm and the crown by their glorious passion.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: she has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers her on 3 February as the grandmother of Saint Celerinus, long since crowned with martyrdom at Carthage.
