Celerinus of Cartagena

Who they were

At Carthage, in present-day Tunisia, Saint Celerinus, lector and martyr: in prison, unconquered by chains, sword and various torments, he confessed Christ, following in the footsteps of his grandmother Celerina, long since crowned with martyrdom, of his paternal uncle Laurence and his maternal uncle Ignatius, who, once soldiers active in military life but then become the true soldiery of God, obtained from the Lord the palm and the crown through their glorious passion.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 3 February as a lector of Carthage who confessed Christ in prison, following his martyred grandmother and uncles.
