Who they were

In the stretch of sea off Rochefort in France, Blessed Charles-René Collas du Bignon, priest of the Society of Saint-Sulpice and martyr, who, rector of the Minor Seminary of Bourges, was shut up in a galley during the French Revolution for his priesthood, where he died consumed by infected sores.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 3 June as a Sulpician priest who died on a prison galley off Rochefort during the French Revolution.
