Christopher Robinson

Who they were

Christopher Robinson, born near Westward in Cumberland, was ordained at Reims and sent on the English mission in 1592. He witnessed and wrote a vivid account of the martyrdom of John Boste at Durham.

Arrested and imprisoned at Carlisle, he refused to save his life by conforming, and was executed there on 19 August 1598 with such cheerful constancy that his death led to many conversions.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

A priest whose cheerful death for the Faith brought many to conversion.
