Chrodegang
Frankish bishop of Metz

Who they were
Chrodegang, of a noble Frankish family, was educated at the court of Charles Martel and became his secretary, chancellor and chief minister. In 742 he was made Bishop of Metz, keeping his civil office at Pepin's request.
He worked for the good of Church and State, brought the Roman liturgy and chant to his diocese, gave his cathedral clergy a common life under a rule he wrote, and founded the Abbey of Gorze. He died at Metz on 6 March 766.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
A statesman-bishop who renewed the prayer and common life of his clergy.
