Who they were
Cirilo Bertrán (José Sanz Tejedor) was born at Lerma, Burgos, on 20 March 1888, to humble working parents who taught him austerity, sacrifice and love of religion. He became a Brother of the Christian Schools and director of their community at Turón.
He and his eight companions were killed on 9 October 1934 in the Asturias revolution, after the proclamation of the 'Asturian Socialist Republic'. They are the Martyrs of Turón.
