Claude de la Colombière
French Jesuit priest and saint (1641-1682)

Who they were
Claude La Colombière, third son of a notary, was born on 2 February 1641 at Saint-Symphorien-d'Ozon in the Dauphiné and studied in Vienne and Lyon. A Jesuit, he taught and preached in Lyon after ordination.
After his solemn profession on 2 February 1675 he was named rector at Paray-le-Monial, where he became spiritual director of St Margaret Mary Alacoque and spread devotion to the Sacred Heart. He was then sent to London as preacher to the Duchess of York.
