Who they were

In the stretch of sea off Rochefort on the French coast, Blesseds Claude-Joseph Jouffret de Bonnefond, of the Society of Priests of Saint-Sulpice, Francis François, of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, and Lazare Tiersot, of the Carthusian Order, priests and martyrs, who, confined during the French Revolution in a foul galley, suffered martyrdom for their priesthood.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 10 August as a Sulpician priest martyred for his priesthood on a prison ship off Rochefort.
