Who they were
Claudine 'Glady' Thévenet was born in Lyon on 30 March 1774, second of seven children, and was a good, gentle influence on her brothers and sisters. She was fifteen when the Revolution broke out.
In 1793 she lived through the siege of Lyon and watched, powerless, as two of her brothers were executed in reprisal in January 1794. Moved by charity and courage, she founded the Religious of Jesus and Mary for the Christian formation of girls, especially the poor.
