Who they were
Clement, born in Ireland in the eighth century, went to France about 771 with his companion Ailbe, announcing himself as a seller of learning. Charlemagne called them to his court and kept Clement in France as master of a higher school.
He directed the Paris school from 775 until his death, probably after 818.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
