Who they were
Concepción Cabrera, known as Conchita, was born in Mexico on 8 December 1862. She married Francisco Armida and had nine children between 1885 and 1899; in 1901, when she was 39, her husband died.
A mystic and a prolific writer, she died in Mexico City on 3 March 1937, aged 74, and is buried at the Church of San José del Altillo there. She is the first Mexican laywoman to be beatified.
The miracles
Jorge Guillermo Treviño — Mexico — 2008
A man with multiple sclerosis prayed to Conchita for healing, fell asleep, and woke completely healed.
She was beatified at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. One more approved miracle is needed for canonisation.
Why that counted as sanctity
On 20 December 1999 the Church declared that this life showed the Christian virtues to a heroic degree, and gave the title Venerable. The case of Jorge Guillermo Treviño was examined by the Church's doctors and theologians and approved as a miracle on 8 June 2018, opening the way to beatification. Beatification followed on 4 May 2019 by a delegate of Pope Francis.
