Cyprilla

Who they were

At Cyrene in Libya, Saint Cyprilla, martyr, who, as the story is told, during the persecution of the emperor Diocletian held burning coals in her hand for a long time together with incense, rather than give the impression, by shaking off the embers, that she meant to make an offering of incense to the gods; afterwards, cruelly torn apart and adorned with her own blood, she passed to the Bridegroom.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: she has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers her on 5 July as the martyr of Cyrene who held burning coals in her hand rather than seem to offer incense to the gods.
