Who they were
Near Langres in Lugdunensian Gaul, now in France, the passion of Saint Desiderius, bishop, who, as tradition says, seeing his people oppressed by the Vandals, went to their king to plead with him but, on his order, was immediately slain, calmly offering himself for the good of the flock entrusted to him.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 23 May as a bishop of Langres who, tradition says, was slain pleading with the Vandal king for his people.
