Who they were
Diarmaid, of princely Connacht family, founded about 530 the monastery of Inisclothran on a lonely island in Lough Ree. His fame drew disciples, among them St Ciaran of Clonmacnoise.
A good teacher, writer and poet, he died in 542; his monastic school kept its reputation for six centuries.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
