Who they were
Diego Luis de San Vitores was born of a noble family at Burgos on 13 November 1627. Feeling drawn by Christ to far-off lands, he gave up the brilliant future his gifts and family offered and joined the Society of Jesus.
A missionary, on 2 April 1672 he was cruelly killed on Guam, with his Filipino catechist Pedro Calungsod, by apostates and islanders who followed pagan superstitions, and thrown into the sea.
