Dolores Márquez Romero
Who they were
María Dolores (Maria Dolorosa) Márquez Romero de Oñoro was born in Seville on 23 December 1817. On the advice of an Oratorian priest she gave herself to restoring dignity to women in prostitution and bringing them the Gospel; in 1860 she left her home and went to live among the women in her care.
To carry this work on she founded the congregation now called the Philippian Daughters of Mary of Sorrows, approved by the Archbishop of Seville in 1865. She was elected its superior in 1871, and later lived many years set aside and in suffering. She died in Seville on 31 July 1904.
