Monsignor Domingos Chohachi Nakamura, born in the Goto islands of Japan, came to Brazil in 1923 and settled at Álvares Machado in 1928 to serve Japanese immigrants and their descendants.

His cause was begun in 2009 at the request of the Nipo-Brazilian Pastoral; the nihil obstat is dated 22 November 2006, and after a supplementary diocesan phase the diocese of Presidente Prudente delivered the documentation to the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints.
