Who they were
In Castile in Spain, in a place later given his name, Saint Dominic, called 'de la Calzada', priest, who built bridges and roads for the use of pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela and lovingly provided for their needs in the cells and guest house he had had built in that place.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 12 May as a priest who built bridges, roads and a guest house for pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela.
