Who they were
Donizetti Tavares de Lima was born at Cássia, Minas Gerais, Brazil, on 3 January 1882; his father loved music and he studied piano, paying his seminary fees as music teacher and organist. He was ordained for the diocese of Pouso Alegre on 12 July 1908.
As parish priest, above all of St Anthony's at Tambaú where he spent most of his life, he bought land and houses for those who had nothing and built a home for the poor elderly. Committed socially and much given to prayer, he fought social injustice and was criticised for it.
