Who they were
Edoardo Giuseppe Rosaz was born at Susa on 15 February 1830, the sixth of seven children of a well-off family. He entered the seminary at fifteen, was ordained in 1854 and as a canon of the cathedral soon became known for his care of the poorest.
As Bishop of Susa for twenty-five years he cared for his people, above all the poor, visiting even the remotest mountain parishes, often on foot, and founded the Sisters of the Third Order of St Francis. He died on 3 May 1903.
