Who they were

The Roman Martyrology remembers him at York in England as a priest and martyr who, having finished his studies at the English College of Reims, returned as a priest to the dominions of Queen Elizabeth I and so crowned his martyrdom on the scaffold before an enraged crowd; the Acts of the Apostolic See list him among the eighty-five martyrs as a diocesan priest of forty-eight, put to death at York in 1588. He was beatified by John Paul II on 22 November 1987.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.
