Who they were
Edward Colman, son of a Suffolk clergyman, became a Catholic after a distinguished career at Cambridge and served as secretary to the Duchess of York. His controversial writings brought converts to the Church.
Named in Titus Oates's false plot, he knew himself innocent, took no steps to protect himself and gave himself up. Despite flagrantly false testimony he was condemned and executed at Tyburn on 3 December 1678.
