Edward Stransham

Who they were

Edward Stransham, born at Oxford about 1554 and educated at St John's College, went to Douai and Reims and was ordained in 1580. He worked in England from 1581 and brought twelve Oxford converts to Reims in 1583.

After eighteen months near death from consumption in Paris, he returned and was arrested in London on 17 July 1585 while saying Mass. Condemned for being a priest, he suffered at Tyburn on 21 January 1586.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.
