Who they were
In the sea off Rochefort in France, Blessed Élie Leymarie de Laroche, priest and martyr, who, thrown during the French Revolution into a squalid galley anchored at sea and cruelly mistreated, died stricken by disease.

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 22 August as a priest who died in a prison galley off Rochefort during the French Revolution.
