Émilie Gamelin

Who they were
Émilie Tavernier was born in Montreal on 19 February 1800, the last of fifteen children of modest, hardworking parents who died early, leaving their children a Christian upbringing marked by Providence.
Having lost her husband and her children, she gave herself to the needy and founded the Sisters of Providence to serve orphans, the elderly and the mentally ill. She died on 23 September 1851.
The miracles
A miracle attributed to her intercession was officially recognised on 18 December 2000; the biography does not describe it.
Why that counted as sanctity
A widow who lost her children and became a mother of Providence to Montreal's poor.
