The Archdiocese of Verapoly opened the diocesan inquiry into the cause of Mgr Emmanuel Lopez on 19 July 2023, and the archdiocese refers to him as Servant of God. A priest of Verapoly who served as archdiocesan administrator in 1986, he is buried in the cemetery of Mount Carmel church, Chathiath, Kochi.
