In Ireland, Saint Enda, abbot, who founded on the island of Aran a monastery whose fame was such that the place came to be called the Island of the Saints.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 21 March as an abbot who founded a monastery on the island of Aran, later called the Island of the Saints.
