Who they were
Epiphanius, born in Judea, lived as a monk in Egypt, founded a monastery and in 367 became Bishop of Salamis in Cyprus. His asceticism and learning gave him great authority in the Church.
He fought the heresies of his time, though his zeal sometimes carried him too far. He died in 403 on the voyage home to Cyprus.

The Catholic Encyclopedia does not describe how he came to be honoured as a saint.
