Who they were
Eucharius was the first Bishop of Trier, in the second half of the third century. An ancient legend makes him one of the seventy-two disciples, sent to Gaul by St Peter with Valerius and Maternus, and tells of many miracles.
He died on 8 December after twenty-five years as bishop, and was buried in the church of St John outside the city. Historians place these first bishops of Trier after 250.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
