Eugène Lemoine

Who they were

Eugène Lemoine was a layman born at Saint-Brieuc on 6 January 1920 and baptised in the cathedral there five days later; he chose an apprenticeship as a carpenter over the seminary and joined the Young Christian Workers in 1936, becoming a very active member. Taken into the compulsory labour service in March 1943 and sent as a carpenter to Wittenberg, where he at once founded a section of the Young Christian Workers, he was arrested on 30 September 1944 and died at Zöschen on 28 February 1945, aged 25. He was beatified on 13 December 2025 by Pope Leo XIV.
