Eugenius of Carthage

Who they were
Eugenius was elected Bishop of Carthage in 480 under the Arian Vandal kings. His wise rule, charity to the poor, austerity and courage under persecution won even the Arians' admiration.
He boldly defended the divinity of the Word and received Vandals into the Catholic Church against a royal edict. King Huneric exiled him with hundreds of bishops to the desert of Tripoli. He died on 13 July 505.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

A bishop who kept the faith through exile under Arian persecution.
