Who they were
At Nicomedia in Bithynia, in present-day Turkey, commemoration of the holy martyrs Migdonius, priest, Eugenius, Maximus, Domna, Mardonius, Smaragdus and Hilarius, who were suffocated one each day, to strike terror into their other companions.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
