Who they were

Eusebio Kino (Kühn), born in the Tyrol on 10 August 1644, joined the Jesuits in 1665 and taught mathematics at Ingolstadt before going to Mexico in 1680.

From 1687 he worked among the peoples of Sonora and Pimería, founding his first mission at Nuestra Señora de los Dolores. He explored the land over more than 20,000 miles and showed that California was a peninsula. He died among his people on 15 March 1711, counted among the greatest missionaries of the region.
