Catholic pope and saint
Feast: 26 September (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
Eusebius succeeded Marcellus in 309 or 310 and reigned only four months. He held that those who had lapsed in the persecution should be readmitted only after proper penance, against a faction led by Heraclius.
The Emperor Maxentius exiled both men; Eusebius was deported to Sicily, where he soon died. For his firm defence of Church discipline and his banishment, Pope Damasus honoured him as a martyr in his epitaph.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

A pope who suffered exile for defending the Church's discipline.
