Eutychian of Africa

Who they were

In Africa, the commemoration of the holy Spanish martyrs Arcadius, Paschasius, Probus and Eutychian, who, in no way willing to submit themselves to the Arian heresy, were first stripped of their goods by Genseric, king of the Vandals, then sent into exile and subjected to atrocious tortures, and finally killed by various kinds of martyrdom. On that occasion the steadfastness of the young boy Paulillus also shone out; he was the brother of Paschasius and Eutychian, and for his tenacious determination to keep to the Catholic faith he was beaten at length with rods and then condemned to the vilest slavery.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 13 November as one of the Spanish martyrs in Africa who refused the Arian heresy, were stripped of their goods by the Vandal king Genseric, exiled, tortured and finally killed.
