Evaristus
5th Pope of the Catholic Church from c. 99 to c. 107

Who they were
Evaristus appears in the second-century lists used by Irenaeus and Hippolytus as the fourth successor of St Peter, after Clement, reigning about eight years around 98 to 106 or 107. The earliest sources give no further authentic details; the Liber Pontificalis says he was of a Greek family, son of a Jew of Bethlehem.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: Evaristus has been honoured as a saint, and traditionally as a martyr, since the early Church.
Why that counted as sanctity
Evaristus led the Church of Rome at the turn of the first century, handing on the faith received from the apostles.
