Who they were
Commemoration of Saint Ezra, priest and scribe, who, in the time of the Persian king Artaxerxes, having returned from Babylon to Judea, gathered the scattered people and worked with great zeal to study, to put into practice and to teach the law of the Lord in Israel.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 13 July as the priest and scribe who returned from Babylon to Judea, gathered the scattered people and taught the law of the Lord in Israel.
