Faustinus and Jovita

Who they were

Faustinus and Jovita were brothers of a noble family of Brescia, Faustinus a priest and Jovita a deacon. For their fearless preaching of the Gospel they were brought before the emperor Hadrian, tortured, and beheaded at Brescia around 120. Most of the details in their Acts are legendary, but their existence and martyrdom are well attested by the early martyrologies and by the veneration of their city, whose chief patrons they are.

There was never a formal cause: they have been honoured as martyrs since the early centuries.

Why that counted as sanctity

Two brothers, priest and deacon, preached Christ without fear and died for Him together.
