Who they were
Felix of Samnium was consecrated pope on 12 July 526 after Pope John I died in prison at Ravenna. He used his favour at the Gothic court to further the interests of the Roman Church and discharged his office most worthily.
In his time a royal edict confirmed that charges against clerics should go to the pope or a Church court. He died in 530.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
A pope who guarded the Church's rights under Gothic rule.
