Ferréol de Vienne

Who they were
In the territory of Vienne, in France, Saint Ferreolus, martyr, who, as is told, during the persecution refused, though a tribune, to arrest the Christians and, taken prisoner for this reason by order of the governor, was cruelly scourged and thrown into prison; having managed to escape, he was captured again by his pursuers and received the palm of martyrdom by beheading.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 18 September as a tribune who refused to arrest Christians and was beheaded near Vienne.
